Overview
The Music course from New York University track produces well-rounded scholars of music with proficiency in research and a sophisticated understanding of music as a global cultural phenomenon.
Upon completion of the major in Music at NYUAD, students will have acquired:
- Musical literacy, understood as formal knowledge of musical structures and practices, informed primarily (but not solely) by Western and Arab traditions of music theory and analysis
- Ability to communicate in written and oral form about music and music practices employing a critical vocabulary that can be applied to the analysis, interpretation, and making of music
- An interdisciplinary conception of music, informed by a well-grounded understanding of its historical and contemporary interrelations with other art forms and fields of inquiry and research
- Substantial engagement in musical practice in its many facets, including performance, improvisation, composition, and the use of computational and recording technologies

General requirements
The Common Application is required for students applying to any or all of NYU's three degree-granting campuses in New York, Abu Dhabi, or Shanghai. You'll be able to choose your campus(es) and programme(s) of interest on the NYU-specific page of the Common Application.
Students must be 17 years old by August 1 of the year they plan to enroll in order to be eligible to attend NYU Abu Dhabi.
Students who elect to submit testing as part of their application to NYU Abu Dhabi, should submit only one of the following:
SAT; or
ACT; or
Three SAT Subject Test scores; or
Three AP exam scores; or
International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma; or
Three IB higher-level exam scores if not an IB Diploma candidate; or
Certain nationally accredited exams that show you completed your secondary education. You can use our international qualifications tool to see if your national exam meets our requirements.
