Overview
There are a growing range of employment opportunities for people who want to work in sports therapy. There is also increasing appreciation that people who are involved in sport – whether at professional, amateur or recreational level – need appropriate and specific support to avoid injury, treat injury and plan and provide appropriate post-injury rehabilitation.
This Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation (Hons) degree at University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) combines both the scientific knowledge and practical skills necessary to become an accomplished sports therapist. You will be taught by our expert team of sports therapy and rehabilitation professionals and have access to excellent on-campus sports facilities. In addition, work placement opportunities will enable you to relate your acquired theoretical knowledge to real-life practices.
What can I do on completion of my course?
On successful completion of BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation you may pursue a career in areas such as:
- Independent therapist
- Within sports clubs, with sports teams and at events
- Working with other professionals (eg physiotherapists, coaches, strength and conditioning specialists, or nutritionists)
- Employment in single or multi-disciplinary clinics providing clinical sports massage treatments
- Teaching/lecturing in sports therapy and rehabilitation
- You can also diversify to apply your skills to treat overuse injuries in an occupational setting

General requirements
- Entry to year one, HNC, is 2 Scottish Highers at grade C or above plus a core skills profile at SCQF level 5 with communication at SCQF level 6, or equivalent OR
- 2 A levels at grade D or above plus relevant GCSE equivalent core skills
- Alternatively, National Qualification at SCQF level 6, S/NVQ level 3, or equivalent, in an appropriate subject area, eg health or sport
- Applicants with relevant work experience will be considered on an individual basis
- This is a Category 1 PVG course: PVG Scheme membership is required to successfully achieve target qualification, where there is guaranteed contact with vulnerable groups in key elements of the course.
