Overview

Throughout the Construction Management course from Adelaide University you’ll develop the expertise needed to oversee complex projects, manage diverse teams and contribute to our built environment. 

The Bachelor of Construction Management is designed to equip you for leadership roles in the construction industry. Developed in collaboration with industry professionals, it combines theoretical knowledge with practical experiences – such as site visits and work placements – to help you build relevant, real-world skills. 

You'll study core areas of construction including surveying, materials, business, management and safety. From second year you’ll dive into more advanced coursework, including quantity surveying, building surveying, contract administration, development regulation, economics and cost management principles. During your studies, you’ll build practical skills in areas like data analytics, communication, negotiation, entrepreneurship, project management and teamwork. 

You can further expand your studies by choosing electives in related fields such as architecture, civil engineering, project management and property. You’ll also learn new digital skills in Building Information Modelling (BMI) tools and industry-standard programmes like Revit, CostX and MS Project.

Construction professionals are in demand, employed by both large construction firms and smaller sub-contractors, as well as consultancy firms. They contribute to different projects, from commercial and residential buildings to heavy industrial and civil construction sites. 

You might focus on environmentally friendly construction practices and materials, building projects with low impact on Earth’s resources. You could be the main coordinator, ensuring timelines, budgets and quality standards are met. Or perhaps you’ll be a specialised technician, creating detailed technical drawings for construction projects.
