Overview
The Bachelor Local Government Administration curriculum has been designed to equip students with skills specifically required to manage the public service, ethics and values that guide the conduct of public affairs at all levels.
This program is enriched to enable scholars to develop and improve the Local Government Administration system in Zambia by addressing the dynamic and constantly changing environment. The programme further lays the basis for scientific research and promotes the mission of the University to create new knowledge through teaching, research and publications.
The Bachelor of Local Government Administration at University of Zambia focuses on the performance of local government in formulating and implementing policies and intends to prepare students to work in the various local governance systems and other non-state agencies.
Objectives of the programme
At the end of the programme graduates are expected to:
- Training in the principles and applications of Local Government Administration.
- Understand the nature and status of local government
- Understand the relevance of training in local government
- Know and understand the different role players in local government training
- Evaluate new developments in the field.

In addition to satisfying the general University entrance requirements candidates for admission to the School of Humanities and Social Sciences must satisfy the following School’s requirements:
Must obtain five credits Ordinary Level passes in the Zambian School Certificate (or equivalent) in:
Group 1: English Language
Group 2: Any three subjects chosen from the following:
- Geography, History, Mathematics
- Business Studies or Commerce or Economics or Principles of Account
- Bible Knowledge or Computer Studies or Literature in English or French or Religious Education or Zambian Languages
- Food and Nutrition or Home Economics or Home Management
- Art or Art and Design or Design and Communication or Music
- Civic Education or Development Studies
- Additional Mathematics
