Biomedical Sciences forms the foundation of modern health-care, from cancer screening to diagnosing HIV, from blood transfusion for surgery to food poisoning, evaluation and screening of drugs and vaccines, epidemiological investigative work, teaching and research. It represents an opportunity to put scientific knowledge into practical use and play a key role within the health-care sector that offers career satisfaction for many in the profession.
Aims
The aim of the Biomedical Sciences program at University of Zambia is to produce Biomedical Scientists who are competent in the diagnosis and monitoring of disease, management of public health promotion, and application of biomedical education and research skills to the study of human health and disease. It also equips the student with detailed knowledge of the principles of leadership and management within the context of the Biomedical Sciences.Programme Structure

General requirements
- Candidates with GCE Advanced level passes or equivalent in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics at credit level or better, recognized by the Senate of this University, will be admitted directly to the first year level of the programme at the School of medicine.
- Candidates with an advanced Certificate or Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology or equivalent qualification, at credit level or better (based on all courses), recognized by the Senate of this University, will also be admitted to the first year level of the programme.
- Candidates with a three year Diploma in Biomedical Sciences/Technology or Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences/Technology, or equivalent, at credit level (based on all courses), recognized by the senate of this University, will be admitted to the third year level of the programme.
- Candidates whose language is not English will normally be required to have passed a test approved by the Senate of this University
