Overview
Within the Software Engineering (Hons) programme from Ulster University, you will be equipped with the skills necessary to work in the software industry or a commercial IT department having gained expertise in the analysis and implementation of the engineering process and the assurance of an advanced knowledge of supportive software engineering techniques.
- You will study the theory and principles of programming and software development and put them into practice using a variety of contemporary programming languages and tools.
- You will develop programming expertise in a variety of languages, for example, Python and Java and examine areas such as Information Infrastructures, Professional Skills, Software Quality, Physical Computing and Web Development.

General requirements
- A level: AAA or AAB requiring an A Level Grade A in one of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Software Systems Development, Computing or Computer Science (not IT/ICT)),
- Applied General Qualifications: RQF Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma/ OCR Cambridge Technical Level 3 Extended Diploma
- Irish Leaving Certificate: 144 UCAS tariff points to include a minimum of five subjects (four of which must be at Higher Level) to include English and Maths at H6 if studied at Higher level or O4 if studied at Ordinary Level.
- International Baccalaureate: Overall profile is minimum 29 points (including 14 at Higher Level).
- For full-time study, you must satisfy the General Entrance Requirements for admission to a first degree course and hold a GCSE pass at Grade C/4 or above in English Language and Mathematics (or equivalent).
- Level 2 Certificate in Essential Skills - Communication will be accepted as equivalent to GCSE English.
