Overview

The Computer Graphic Arts programme is a part of VIA's Animation Bachelor's degree programme at which students can choose to specialise in either Character Animation or Computer Graphic Arts.

Computer Graphic Arts will teach you the fundamentals on your journey of becoming a digital artist: Design, concept art and film and animation history as well as 3D modelling.

In the thorough introduction, you will make your way through most of the 3D workflow with a focus on modelling characters and environments.

In the second year, you will create a digital creature, from the initial concept to realising it in 3D and finally integrating it into a live-action background.

You will also collaborate with the Character Animation students on a group project where you will learn how to work with clients and target an audience, simulating industry scenarios.

During your electives, you will have a chance to dive deeper into a specific area or explore uncharted land to specialise your skills within the areas of your interest.

Portfolio and internship

During your studies, you will be able to work on your portfolio and at your final year, you will complete an obligatory 14-week internship with a production studio.

Portfolio

The admission board will review the applications and portfolio of all applicants and invite the top-40 for an admission test and interview. The test is a 4 hour individual online test, consisting of small drawing assignments, testing your ability to structure time and make decisions, ability to follow directions as well as drawing and storytelling skills. The interview can take place in person or online and the main topics are you motivations for applying and a review of your portfolio. Expect the interview to last 20-25 minutes.
