Overview
The IMC Krems Chemistry bachelor programme was launched in 2018. It is taught entirely in English to give you the best possible preparation for entering the increasingly interconnected world of work.
Chemistry is everywhere
Without modern chemistry, high-performance medicines, advanced materials produced from renewable sources, and many solutions to environmental problems would still be pipe dreams. In other words, chemistry is everywhere.
As a graduate of our Chemistry programme you will be ready to embark on challenging careers in the chemical industry or a variety of other fields such as biotechnology, process engineering or environmental science.
Forward-looking curriculum and strong practical focus
The Chemistry programme will give you a solid foundation in the diverse fields and disciplines of chemistry. Your courses will cover inorganic, analytical and organic chemistry as well as physical chemistry and biochemistry. The curriculum features an ideal combination of theoretical subjects and practical training in the lab. At IMC Krems we place a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary education – it’s the best way of identifying and understanding the connections between various different phenomena.
We supplement the chemistry subjects with applied informatics, statistics and process engineering courses to give our graduates the best possible springboard into today’s job market.
Individual support
Personal supervision and direct contact between students and lecturers ensure that you will be ideally prepared for the day-to-day challenges of the workplace. You will meet speakers and guest lecturers from a variety of companies and several different universities. This will enable you to build up a valuable network of contacts and learn how to look at problems from a range of perspectives.
International appeal
Gaining experience abroad is important for your professional and personal development. The majority of our students travel to other countries to complete internships and exchange semesters. We will help you to find an internship place and organise your stay abroad, meaning you can take advantage of our international network of partner universities, institutions and businesses.
Green chemistry and environmental protection
We take safeguarding the environment very seriously on the Chemistry programme. This is why it includes lectures on green chemistry, renewable resources and recycling. We also highlight and discuss the environmental aspects of the topics you study at every opportunity.
Programme Structure
At the beginning of the programme you do courses covering the basic subjects of chemistry and related disciplines. You receive a solid foundation in general, analytical, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry, as well as biochemistry.
You’ll study mathematics, computer science, statistics, physics and chemical process engineering. The theoretical knowledge you acquire is consolidated in the course of practical exercises, and you receive hands-on training in the chemistry lab.
You complete a 22-week internship in semester 5, giving you the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge you have acquired in your lectures.
Towards the end of your degree you will study familiar topics in more depth and opt for one of the two electives: Instrumental Analysis and Chemometrics or Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry
