There is great potential for Spanish speakers in Africa especially in the fields of tourism and hospitality, international relations, journalism, translation and interpreting and teaching.
The Bachelor of Arts in Spanish (Honours) offered at University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg has established collaborations with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and with the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).
These collaborations seek to promote the teaching of Spanish language and the culture of Spanish speaking countries as well as facilitate academic exchanges for staff and students. The academic programs have been recently developed taking into account the current Curriculum transformation taking place across the university.

Programme Structure
Courses include:
- For the Honours of Spanish and Latin American Studies, students are required to take four modules and develop a Research Essay on a topic of their choice, approved by the Head of Department or Supervisor.

- The Honours in the field of Spanish and Latin American Studies is a one-year full-time or two-year part-time degree. The entry requirements (in addition to Faculty requirements for admission to Honours) are:
