Overview
Students of the Environment and Marine Science Honours Major (BSc) (Honours) degree from Curtin University will develop research, technical, professional and communication skills relevant to biological research, along with specialised discipline knowledge through a process of inquiry. Completing their dissertation will involve critical review of scientific literature, the formulation of research questions and hypotheses, selection of appropriate methodology and experimental design, social and ethical consideration of the research process; collection, analysis and interpretation of scientific data, and effective scientific writing to produce a professional-standard manuscript.
What you'll learn:
- Have demonstrated knowledge and understanding in the Environment and Marine Science that is at a level that is informed by knowledge of the forefront of Environment and Marine Science, within a research context.
- Can apply their knowledge and understanding in a manner that indicates a professional approach to Environment and Marine Science, and have competencies demonstrated through devising and sustaining arguments (to both specialist and non-specialist audiences) and solving advanced problems within Environment and Marine Science.
- Understand the constructs of the scientific method and apply these principles in Environment and Marine Science by communicating new knowledge, including using digital technologies.
- Can gather and interpret relevant research data within Environment and Marine Science to inform judgements that include reflection on relevant social, scientific or ethical issues, including being aware of the diversity of international perspectives associated with Environment and Marine Science, and how these impact upon the practice of Environment and Marine Science.
- Understand the global and cultural issues within Environment and Marine Science and how these impact on the practice of their profession.
- Display a very high standard of professional behaviour, including effective time management, both independently and as a team member.
