Earth scientists are essential to the resources and environmental industries and use sophisticated techniques for the analysis of Earth and planetary materials. Environmental scientists manage human impacts on the environment through the application of expertise in the physical and biological sciences to generate innovative and sustainable solutions to environmental issues.
Graduates of the Earth and Environmental Sciences Major from Curtin University will be well placed to utilise skills such as monitoring the impact of industrial, urban. mining and agricultural development, measuring and analysing pollutants, and developing conservation and management plans.

- Have demonstrated knowledge and understanding across disciplines in earth and environmental science that is typically at a level that, whilst supported by advanced textbooks, includes some aspects that will be informed by knowledge of the forefront of the field of study,
- Apply their knowledge and understanding in a manner that indicates a professional approach to earth and environmental science, and have competencies typically demonstrated through devising and sustaining arguments (to both specialist and non-specialist audiences) and solving problems across disciplines in earth and environmental science,
- Understand the constructs of the scientific method and apply these principles in earth and environmental science using digital technologies,
- Gather and interpret relevant data across earth and environmental science to inform judgements that include reflection on relevant social, scientific, or ethical issues, including being aware of the diversity of international perspectives associated across earth and environmental science, and how these impact upon the practice of earth and environmental science,
- Understand and appreciate cultural diversity and how it impacts on the practice of earth and environmental science,
- Display a high standard of professional behaviour, including effective time management, both independently and as a team member,
