Overview

You’ll explore the legacies of the ancient world, from Greece to Egypt and Rome and discover how migration, gender, identity and religion played a role in their growth and evolution.

You’ll share vibrant ideas in seminars, group projects and research-led assessments, and learn from your peers as well as practicing historians and archaeologists. We also offer a range of state-of-the-art equipment in our archaeology laboratory, including tools for geophysical and land surveys.

Ancient History offers a range of intriguing options, shaped by your own interests. You can study an ancient language, take a year abroad at one of our partner institutions, and even receive excavation training by taking an optional pathway in archaeology.

Shedding light on ancient history requires a variety of different disciplines. Our researchers are active in excavation and archaeology, but also in literature, philosophy and language. Our students benefit from this research as part of our curriculum and emerge with a broad range of skills.
