Course overview
Core issues that the Design (Interior Design) program at PolyU Design addresses include a focus on the interior aspects of urban development, how interiority has become one of the operative agents for setting trends, as social facilitators and a form of speculative and spatial questioning, especially in the dense environment of Hong Kong, and how interior architecture / design professions have a critical role to play in the definition of this emerging spatial condition.
Aims and Objectives
The Interior Design programme aims to provide students with creative, professional skills and knowledge that are necessary for a successful career in the interior design industry. The programme educates interior designers to have a broad interdisciplinary view of their role within the industry, and to be able to operate at various scales to design innovative spaces within the contemporary city.
Graduates will gain knowledge of how interior design intersects with other spatial and environmental disciplines including architecture, landscape, urban design, and planning policies. With the exposure to graphic design, product design and industrial design, the course provides a gateway to further educational opportunities in design fields.
Career Prospects
The Interior Design programme is intended to prepare students for a career in the profession of interior design industry primarily to provide service in Hong Kong and Mainland China at an international standard, to operate and work internationally or in association with global companies and organizations.
Graduates of the BA (Hons) in Design (Interior Design) are able to design at different scales and with the different disciplines that deal with the environmental and interior design industry including

- interior architecture,
- spatial design,
- environmental graphics,
- set design,
- exhibition design,
- furniture and furnishing design,
- lighting design,
- urban space design,
- landscape and interiorscape design, and
- experience design.

- An Associate Degree or a Higher Diploma in Design/Design Studies from a recognised institution.
- Applicants are required to submit their portfolios during the application procedure. A portfolio can be Creative or Maker focused, depending on the preferences, strengths and backgrounds of the applicant.
