Designers are central players in the creation of any performance. Whether it is in the role of set designer, costume designer, lighting designer or sound designer, they play a pivotal and collaborative part in the conception and realisation of a performance. Performance designers work with the human figure, space, light and sound to create beautiful and meaningful design.

In the Design - Performance Design program at University of Melbourne, you will learn to manipulate these materials and explore their relationship to each other through studio-based classes alongside a comprehensive study of the theory, history and practice of performance design.

The Bachelor of Design course structure results in a flexible degree that allows students to explore different fields of study. You can choose your major immediately or make a decision before the beginning of second year.
