Profile of the Energy, Oil and Gas Management programme at University of Nicosia:

The proposed Bachelor degree is designed to have learning outcomes related to: knowledge, application of knowledge and understanding of the oil and gas technologies and the management of energy. The curriculum equips students with theoretical and practical knowledge, investigative and analytical skills, and the understanding of the business and management processes necessary to develop a career in the Oil & Gas industry.

The program is has both an academic and market orientation. Thus, it is targeting students that intend to pursue post-graduate studies, as well as those that will enter the job market after graduation.

Career Prospects:

It is expected with almost certainty that the discovery of oil and gas in the Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone will prompt the establishment of new companies and operations with an increasing number of job opportunities.

These jobs are expected to be in three related categories:

  • Vocational workers such as mechanics, welders, plumbers, electricians specialized in the oil & gas and ancillary industries.
  • This need can best be satisfied with technical/vocational programs.
  • Business managers and executives with a thorough understanding of the oil & gas and ancillary industries who can function and perform superbly in this emerging industry.
  • This is the need which is being met with the present program.
  • More science-oriented technical staff who may be presently unemployed holders of degrees in chemistry, physics, mathematics, engineering, biology, geology etc. who will attend a post-graduate programme and turn them into high-level technical/engineering staff for the various operational technologies and processes.
This need can be met with a post-graduate degree programme in Oil and Gas Technology.
Access to Further Studies:

Students obtaining the Bachelor of Science degree in Energy, Oil & Gas Management will have several opportunities for further studies:

  • A Master of Science (MSc) degree in Oil and Gas or Energy Technology.
  • Another related post-graduate degree such as the Master in Laws (LLM) degree with a related specialization. This Masters will not qualify them as lawyers but the knowledge gained will be substantial and very useful.
  • A professional qualification, such as the ACCA or the Institute of Marketing for specialized knowledge in a business functional area which will be an ideal combination with their previous undergraduate background.

    The TOEFL – or Test OF English as a Foreign Language – offers a paper-based test (PBT). The final, overall PBT score ranges between 310 and 677, and is based on an average taken from the three test components (listening, structure, and reading). Academic Requirements

The general admission requirement for entry to an undergraduate programme of study is a High School Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualification. Some programmes may have additional requirements in which case they are specified separately under the relevant programme details.

Regular Academic Admission

Regular admission to academic programmes requires a High School Leaving Certificate or its equivalent with an average grade of ‘C’. ‘A’ levels are considered to be a form of equivalent qualification. (Depending on the nature of the ‘A’ levels obtained and the programme for which the student applies, credits within the programme may be awarded up to a maximum of 12 credits).

In addition to a strong academic record, we take into account the student’s extracurricular involvement, leadership skills, and other relevant background information.

English Language Proficiency

English is the language of instruction at the University of Nicosia. All students are required to take the English Placement Test (EPT) before registering for classes. The EPT may show that some students will need to register for non-credit English classes before being able to register for their academic programme of study.

Students with the following English qualifications will register directly for their academic programme of study:
