In addition to developing cineliteracy, Film and Television Studies students from University of Cape Town will acquire a good understanding of the industrial, historical and socio-political factors that shape screen media as well as current developments in both the industry and approaches to film studies.
Overview
The major in Film and TV Studies offers a thorough grounding in the history, theory, and analysis of Film and Television. We also encourage creativity through storyboarding and scriptwriting. The skills provided give students access to careers in academic teaching and scholarship, film journalism, film festival management, and film librarianship. A wide-ranging knowledge of Film and TV also effectively complements creative practice in screenwriting, production, and direction.
The major in Media and Writing weaves together theory and analysis of broadcast and print media with extensive creative practice. Students are trained in writing and editing for awide range of media: they may specialise in news reporting, investigative journalism, freelancing, sports journalism, advertising, documentary, writing for television (soaps and sitcoms), youth culture and the media, writing for magazines, feature journalism, and travel writing

General requirements
- Entry requirements for applicants with foreign schoolleaving examinations. To be considered for admission, applicants must qualify for a matriculation exemption from the Matriculation Board, and must meet certain minimum faculty entry requirements.
- Some of the more common foreign school-leaving examinations submitted by international applicants include O and A-level examinations, HIGCSE and IGCSE examinations, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, and the Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE). Applicants who have written only the O-level or equivalent examination, and who are not writing any other school-leaving examination, are not eligible for admission to UCT. If you are writing a foreign school-leaving qualification, your application to UCT will be assessed individually.
