Key features
As a Black Music and Culture major at Berklee College of Music, you will engage with and contextualize the historical, social, artistic, and cultural contributions of the global African diaspora at the intersection of arts and culture—namely music, dance, and theater.
Upon completion of this major, students will:
- investigate, synthesize, and generate new understandings and applications of the global African diaspora’s impact on, and shaping of, music, dance, theater, and other art forms;
- create new music through the lens of the global African diaspora;
- examine and evaluate a variety of artistic traditions in relation to the African diaspora; and
- critique the historic, social, and cultural contexts of the African diaspora, as well as the role of community, race, ethnicity, and gender.
