Overview
The Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Mechanical) Major from Ara Institute of Canterbury is a three year degree comprising of core and elective courses with a focus on the design and implementation of engineering technology.
The BEngTech (Mechanical) is fully accredited by Engineering New Zealand (EngNZ) and is recognised internationally under the Sydney Accord.
In your first year of study you'll develop core engineering skills in computing, mathematics, management and the engineering sciences, plus some discipline specific topics. This forms the foundation upon which you'll build your degree. Critical thinking, problem solving and innovation will be a key part of your success.
Career opportunities
There is a growing demand for mechanical engineering graduates to work for private companies or consultancies in diverse industry sectors including energy infrastructure, manufacturing, construction, product development, aviation and boat building, agriculture and horticulture.

University Entrance: NCEA Level 3 (60 credits at level 3 and 20 credits at level 2 or higher) which must include 14 credits at Level 3 in each of three approved* subjects and:
14 credits at Level 3 in each of : Physics, Calculus and one other subject from the list of approved subjects- Literacy - 10 credits at Level 2 or above, made up of 5 credits in reading, 5 credits in writing,
- Numeracy* - 10 credits at Level 1 or above (specified achievement standards, or unit standards 26623, 26626, 26627)
