Overview
Within this Social Work Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) from the Eastern Institute of Technology as part of your training you’ll be assigned to social work placements in agencies. You will also gain the skills to reflect on your own perceptions, actions, and processes, as well as the ability to promote social justice.
Upon graduating, you will be able to apply for provisional registration as a social worker with the Social Workers Registration Board.
If you receive high grades in your third year of study, you may complete the fourth year at a higher level and graduate with a Bachelor of Social Work (Honours).

Possible agencies and\or fields of practice where you could find employment as a social worker include: Oranga Tamariki, Te Whatu Ora, DOVE, Birthright, Presbyterian Support Services, Family Works, schools, Community Mental Health Services, Disability Resource Centres, Age Concern, Iwi social services, Directions, prisons and a range of other social service agencies.

General requirements
The academic entry requirement for the BCP is either:
- University Entrance, as defined by the NZQA; or
- Evidence regarded as sufficient by the Discipline Leader of the capability to undertake and complete the programme of study; or
At the discretion of the Head of School, where the applicant is over 20 years of age and demonstrates the capability to undertake and complete the programme of study.
A person is eligible to apply for entry who:
- Can satisfactorily prove that they have the potential to succeed on the programme and is over the age of 20 by the official start date of their programme of study.
- A hand-written letter of application
- A portfolio of work that represents the applicant’s level of achievement
- An interview
- Evidence of ability to cope with the academic demands of the programme
