Overview

The Applied Linguistics and Language Studies Major is offered by Chung Yuan Christian University. They focus on training students in 5 basic aspects -- listening comprehension, speaking, reading, writing and translating.

The student-teacher ratio in all our courses is reasonable, and lecture halls are equipped with Internet access, multimedia technology and advanced translation equipment to help students gain a solid level of English proficiency.

The courses provided by these two programs are taught exclusively in English. The undergraduate program focuses on enhancing students' English skills. In addition, the undergraduate program focuses on English language training and subfields in Applied Linguistics (TESOL and Translation/Interpretation.)

Additionally, undergraduate students are required to learn a second foreign language (i.e., French, German, Japanese, or Spanish) and pass the 2nd language proficiency test as one of the graduation requirements.

The M.A. program emphasizes students’ professional knowledge in the subfields of linguistics, foreign language pedagogy, and/or translation and interpretation in addition to training English language skills.
