American University in Dubai follows the North American model in the design of its programs and curricula. Therefore, students who are interested in applying for admission to a medical school must earn an undergraduate degree (Bachelor), complete Pre-Medical (Pre-Med) Studies course requirements, and pass the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) in order to become eligible for admission to medical schools.

The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biology provides the foundation for Pre-Med students to succeed in their medical training. Pre-Med requirements include 30 credits of basic science courses, along with six credits of Social Sciences courses, all of which are provided within the B.S. in Biology curriculum. Accordingly, the B.S. in Biology equips Pre-Med students with a solid and extensive knowledge base on which they can build their medical studies once they gain admission to a medical school.

Program Mission

The B.S. in Biology’s primary mandate is to provide excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. It is a comprehensive program, which exposes students to the full range of biological sciences. Our undergraduate four-year curriculum introduces students to modern studies in general, molecular, cell, and environmental biology. It also emphasizes active, hands-on experience with modern technology. Small class sizes with an emphasis on laboratories and tutorials foster ongoing, productive interactions between students and faculty.
