The Child and Youth Studies (Hons) at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) is a pioneering four-year, full-time degree delivered online. The Child and Youth Studies (Hons) at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) is a multi-disciplinary programme designed to provide a deep understanding of issues affecting children within local and global contexts. Why Child and Youth Studies (Hons) at University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI)?

This programme is the first in Scotland to combine child and youth studies, offering a unique perspective on the field. Careers with Child and Youth Studies (Hons)

Graduates are well-equipped to pursue rewarding careers across various sectors dedicated to supporting children and young people. Many progress into roles within youth work, community learning and development, or social work. The degree also provides a strong foundation for careers in early learning provision, NGO and charity work, and allied health professions. Furthermore, the programme serves as a gateway to postgraduate study, including teaching qualifications such as the PGDE, or specialised Master’s degrees in psychology, health and wellbeing, or children's rights and leadership.

  • Applicants with relevant professional qualifications or experience are also welcomed and will be considered on an individual basis

  • You are required to attend an interview, in person or by telephone, to discuss the course in detail and to explain the method of teaching
