The Energy Transition - Sustainability and Leadership programme from Uppsala University is for who sees leadership as exciting and wants to contribute towards a sustainable energy transition domestically or internationally.


The Bachelor programme in Energy Transition - Sustainability and Leadership from Uppsala University is designed to give broad knowledge and holistic understanding of the challenges and solutions for sustainable energy, from social, economic and ecological points of view. You will study energy systems from natural, social and technical science perspectives and explore technical possibilities while at the same time learning about relevant economic and political policies. Your studies will also address the roles that social change and participation have in a sustainable transition.

It is our goal to offer an interdisciplinary education that reaches across different academic disciplines in order to stimulate a wider understanding. It also grants the ability to work with energy transition and sustainability in a holistic way, together with experts like engineers, spatial planners, economists or environmental scientist. 

Besides providing theoretical knowledge in the different fields, practical work in various forms plays a major role in many of the programme’s courses which allows you to practice your skills in communication, teamwork and leadership. This combination of theoretical and practice skills better prepares for your future career in tackling today’s and tomorrow’s challenges of energy transition.


The programme is recommended to you who want to develop and lead this energy transition within the broad and fast-growing field of energy transition. Employment opportunities can be found in national or international companies (utility companies, electricity companies, large private businesses which have sustainability incorporated into their core activities, housing companies, transport companies, consultancies) as well as not for profit organisations and governmental authorities on different levels. Academic Requirements

General entry requirements for first-cycle (Bachelor's level) studies in Sweden. Also required is:

  • advanced level mathematics (equivalent of Swedish course Mathematics 3b/3c);
  • intermediate level natural sciences (equivalent of Swedish course Natural Sciences 2); and
  • basic level social sciences (equivalent of Swedish course Social Sciences 1b/1a1+1a2).
All applicants need to verify English language proficiency that corresponds to English studies at upper secondary (high school) level in Sweden ("English 6").
