Overview
Our graduates of the Sound Technology course from The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) are multi-skilled practitioners able to work across the entire audio industry: recorded sound, live sound, film and TV, gaming and emergent technology.
George Martin Studio
The George Martin Studio (GMS) is LIPA’s flagship recording studio. Featuring a large control room, allowing hands on masterclasses with visiting practitioners to take place, it is built around an SSL Duality console. This console has been widely adopted across a range of larger commercial studios and features tight integration with Digital Audio Workstations such as ProTools, while still giving the benefits of a high-performance analogue signal path. Outboard equipment majors on ‘boutique’ and classic analogue devices to complement the extensive range of plug-ins available on the resident ProTools HDX system. Optimised for music tracking and mixing, GMS has visual sight-lines and connectivity to two separate recording spaces. It also features its own machine room to house some equipment, including a vintage 24-track analogue multi-track. Like all of the studios, there’s the opportunity to connect to all of the other studios and to performance spaces throughout the institute using a sophisticated digital audio network built around the Dante networking standard.
