The department aims to raise creative and dynamic individuals who are highly proficient in English, capable of analyzing language, culture, and literature, and who possess a thorough understanding of Western, particularly Anglo-Saxon and American, culture.

Additionally, the department aims to prepare graduates for their postgraduate studies in universities both domestically and abroad, as well as for their careers in various sectors such as communication, media, tourism, embassies, cultural centers, international relations units of companies, language and culture consultancy, and translation.

The American Culture and Literature programme from Baskent University also aims to train individuals who can work as English teachers and instructors in various educational institutions. This programme includes courses designed to improve students' written and spoken English skills, as well as courses that provide a foundation for the historical, literary, and critical study of American culture and literature. Our academic staff consists of 1 professor, 1 associate professor, 7 assistant professors, and 2 research assistants.

Admissions to the programmes are made in accordance with the rules and regulations set down by The Higher Education Council of Turkey in compliance with the laws and statutes. Students apply to Başkent University on the dates announced in order to complete their enrolment to the programmes. Unless a written excuse is presented, enrolment procedures have to be carried out by the students themselves individually. The process is administered by the Student Registrar’s Office.

The placement of students in the Programme is held through the National Student Election and Placement System which is operated by the Measurement, Selection, and Placement Centre.
