Overview

Our four-year Extended BA will provide you with a preparatory year that will support your creative development, through a broad range of art, design and media skills, as the basis for continued study in your chosen specialist degree. Learning through experimentation, exploration and discovery, successfully completing this year allows automatic progression to your chosen degree at Arts University Plymouth.

Throughout this dynamic and supportive journey, you'll embark on a personal exploration, discovering your unique passions and strengths within the creative arts. Through lectures, workshops, studios, seminars, and tutorials, you'll engage in an intensive and challenging curriculum designed to foster academic confidence, purpose, and direction. This immersive experience culminates in a specialised personal investigation module, allowing you to delve deep into your chosen degree subject, gaining firsthand experience and refining your creative identity.

The Extended BA year primes you to become a confident, independent, and creative artist, designer, or maker, setting you on the path to excel in the next steps of your degree course.

Following the introductory year, students will follow our unit structure which applies to all of our undergraduate courses and creates a culture that promotes curiosity and creative thinking that extends beyond subject boundaries. Each unit will be contextualised by the subject specialism, and delivery will manifest uniquely through the specialist lens of each course.

We typically ask for between 104 - 120 UCAS points, earned through an Art & Design Foundation Diploma, A-levels, BTEC Extended Diploma MMM grade, Access to HE Art & Design, Irish/Scottish Highers/Advanced Highers, the International Baccalaureate, or other international qualifications.
