Overview
It offers a degree in biology that is closely interlinked with methods of mathematical modelling, data analysis and bioinformatics: a canon of subjects consistently geared to the needs of modern life science research. With forty lecturers who are jointly involved in the teaching of this program by HHU and UoC, a good supervision ratio of lecturers and students can be offered.
Key features
Quantitative Biology is an interdisciplinary course of study that includes biological and quantitative-analytical elements (mathematical modelling, biostatistics, bioinformatics) in equal measure. The quantitative skills thus imparted are at best marginal in traditional biology courses, but are of central importance in modern biological and biomedical research.
An important professional field for graduates of quantitative biology is therefore research and development work in the life science and health sectors, both in industry and at public research institutions and universities. But also areas such as environmental biology, the pharmaceutical industry, hygiene or water management are open to graduates.
The Quantitative Biology degree at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf qualifies students for further Master's degree programs in the field of biology, but also, for example, for the Master's programs "Molecular Biomedicine", "Translational Neuroscience", "Industrial Pharmacy" and "Artificial Intelligence and Data Science" at HHU. The successfully completed 4-year variant also opens up the possibility of a 1-year master's program or the direct admission of doctoral studies in corresponding graduate schools.
