The objective of the American Culture and Literature programme at Istanbul University is to develop students’ ability to make critical analysis in many areas of social sciences and to be able to express their ideas orally and in written form.

Knowledge

Having advanced theoretical and practical knowledge supported by the field – oriented contemporary course texts and other sources.

Internalizing basic theoretical frames and concepts and having sufficient knowledge in the application of the acquired knowledge on the field-oriented discussions.

Having sufficient theoretical knowledge in the evaluation/interpretation of the course texts and other sources for further reading.

Skills

Having reciprocal ability to correlate the field with other fields or disciplines.

By utilizing the basic knowledge and skills acquired in the field , ability to detect certain difficulties in an issue and offer justifiable results/solutions.

Taking initiative to arrange proper inter-personal relations by allowing for all field-related possibilities.

Ability to share and discuss the field-related matters with other competent individuals of the field.

Ability to analyze and process the given social data by the help of proper methodology/technique.

Awareness in the matters of social justice , cultural values , workplace security/health and the universal principles of employee benefits.

General requirements

Being high-school graduate and having the required scores in YGS, LGS3, LGS4, and LGS5 exams held by OSYM. The students who would like to transfer to our programme by means of "vertical transfers" need to have the required score in DGS exam also held by OSYM. The students who would like to apply through "lateral transfers" need to meet the minimum GPA average as specified by the Student Administration Office. International students are required to take the "Examination for Foreign or Overseas Students" exam held by Istanbul University.
