The Fine Arts programme delivered at The Chinese University of Hong Kong aims to achieve this objective in the following ways:

Focusing on Chinese Art in the Global Context: The programme offers a wide range of courses in Chinese art practices and history, alongside Western art history and studio training. Whenever possible, interaction between the fields is stressed. This integrated approach reflects Hong Kong’s special role as an advanced, multicultural city.

Emphasising Both the Practice and History of Art: The Department puts equal emphasis upon studio and art history courses. As a result, our graduates are well-rounded and well-equipped for professional careers in the arts.
Preparing Students for Careers in the Arts: The Department constantly revises its existing courses and introduces new courses to meet the trends and needs of the society. It also organizes professional training courses and internship programmes for students to learn practical approaches to future careers as professional artists, art educators, art administrators, etc.

Career Prospects

As the first tertiary institute to offer visual arts education in Hong Kong, CU’s Fine Arts Department has been a strategic base for training artists, art historians and other art professionals in Hong Kong, and has made a significant contribution to the field of art nationally and internationally.
