Overview
In a world where Islam – a religion of peace, moderation, and progression – is often misrepresented, our BS programme in Islamic Studies seeks to challenge stereotypes and offer a modern approach to the religion.
The programme begins with a bridging semester designed for foundational learning, introducing you to the Arabic language, Translation of the Holy Quran, Seerah of the Prophet (Khatam un Nabiyeen ﷺ), Usool e Tafseer, Usool e Hadith, and Fiqh. Over the four years, you will build upon these fundamentals and explore key areas such as the Textual Study of Hadith, the History of Khulafa e Rashideen, Tajweed, and research in Islamic Studies, which will help you contribute to the scholarly work through writing a thesis.
By engaging with research-active scholars and undertaking diverse learning tasks, you are encouraged to develop intellectual independence and critical thinking skills. Seminars, guest sessions and visits prepare you to apply the multifaceted role of religion in human societies and portray Islam's true teachings with clarity and integrity. Electives offered in later semesters allow students to specialise in areas of individual interest.
Career Prospects
The Islamic Studies program of The University of Lahore aims at realizing the long-cherished dream of striking a balance between the pristine values of Islam as outlined in the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah, and the practical challenges of modern times.
We try to cultivate a spirit of dispassionate research bringing about chiseled minds firm in belief but endowed with tolerance without, of course, being apologetic. The highly qualified academicians have been engaged to focus on achieving excellence in education-cum-research. The faculty will contribute to the intellectual, cultural, and social development of the institution.
