Overview
Core courses, including refraction, low vision, orthoptics, contact lenses, and dispensing, provide a strong base for understanding and managing complex visual conditions. Practical experience is central to the programme, with hands-on training in our state-of-the-art Optometry Lab. Equipped with advanced tools such as retinoscopes, ophthalmoscopes, slit lamps, and specialised vision charts, the lab ensures that students gain immersive, real-world skills. The Centre for Healthcare Simulation and Innovation (CHSI) further enriches learning, using simulation models to deepen understanding of ocular anatomy, physiology, and diagnostic techniques.
To bridge theory and practice, Vision Sciences students of The University of Lahore complete mandatory internships at our affiliated hospitals and healthcare centres across Lahore. In their final year, students undertake research projects, exploring areas such as eye diseases, innovative diagnostic instruments, and advancements in contact lens technology.
Career Prospects
Graduates of the Bachelor of Vision Sciences are frontline primary eye care professionals responsible for safeguarding public vision health. They examine, diagnose, manage, and prevent disorders of the visual system, detect ocular signs of systemic diseases, prescribe selected medications, and provide corrective, low-vision, and rehabilitative services. Working across government and private practice, hospitals, clinics, community health centres, academia, research, and administration, optometrists deliver integrated care, promote vision health awareness, and contribute to advancements in visual sciences within a regulated professional framework.
