Overview
Nursing from The University of the West Indies prepares students to demonstrate a commitment to humanitarian service as a component of professional nursing in a culturally diverse society, engage in communication and collaboration with members of the health care team and recognize the need for continuing education and learning and accept professional responsibility for his/her action, thus acting as a change agent in the delivery of health care.
Students at Nursing from The University of the West Indies will:
- Demonstrate the use of critical thinking in clinical decision-making.
- Formulate a personal and professional ethical framework to guide conduct and decision-making in professional nursing.
- Evaluate, apply and communicate research findings to improve professional practice.
- Analyze and evaluate leadership and management theories in nursing practice.
- Evaluate the health policy process for the improvement of health care for all.

General requirements
- Applicants must have obtained passes in the Caribbean Examination Council (CSEC) or the General Certificate Examination (GCE) Ordinary Level or any approved equivalent, in at least five (5) subjects, including three (3 ) compulsory: English Language OR Communication Studies (CAPE); One subject from Mathematics OR Pure Mathematics (CAPE), OR Applied Mathematics (CAPE); one subject from Biology or Human and Social Biology.
- AND, Two other subjects from the following list: (Chemistry, Food, and Nutrition, Caribbean History, Information Technology, Social Studies, Principles of Business and Principles of Account)
- Obtain passes at no lower than grade IV or D in CAPE/GCE ‘A’ level subjects OR no more than two (2) subjects at the Grade III for CSEC subjects.:
- Be at least 17 years at the time of admission to the program;
- Provide two (2) letters of recommendation
- Applicants may also be required to submit to a personal interview decided by the School
