Overview
The BA in Ethiopian Sign Language and Interpretation is a four-year regular program designed to immerse students in Ethiopian Sign Language (EthSL), Deaf culture, and sign language interpretation.
Key features
Program Objective – the program Ethiopian Sign Language and Deaf Culture program at Addis Ababa University has the following objectives:
- Train sign linguists who can conduct research in EthSL in order to promote the use, status and functions of EthSL.
- Train Sign Language interpreters for various government organizations as well as NGOs that deal with the life of the Deaf in one way or another.
- Promote collaborative research on EthSL with other institutions of higher learning both locally and internationally.
- Provide consultancy services to organizations, schools, institutions that work to promote EthSL and culture; organize workshops and/or short-term trainings for people involved in Sign Language and Deaf education, compilation of Sign Language dictionary, etc.
- Fulfill the increase in demand of those students who are working during day time and who would like to improve their education.

- Letter from the Higher Education Relevance and Quality Agency (HERQA) for the certification of your educational documents. (The office of HERQA is found in Addis Ababa on the road which is leading to Shiro Meda in front of the American Embassy).
- Two copies of educational documents.
- A letter from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia or from your embassy here in Ethiopia showing the reason for being here.
- Application fee: for Undergraduate Program 40USD, for Graduate Program 150USD
- Two passport size photograph.
