Overview

The Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) - Zoology B.Phil programme from The University of Western Australia will provide you with a sound knowledge and understanding of animal structure and function and the evolutionary processes that have engendered animal diversity.

Zoologists also study physiology, reproduction, behaviour, community ecology and molecular genetics. Zoology underpins society’s interest in conservation and marine science including major contributions to current research in fisheries and ecosystem management. It is envisaged that there will be up to two overnight field trips (cost of food and accommodation of up to $200 for around four nights to be paid by the student).

Career opportunities:

Zoology graduates are employed in private sector companies (such as fisheries, aquaculture, resources sector), in government departments (for example, Environment, Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, State Fisheries), in public agencies (such as museums and zoos) and in environment and conservation research agencies (CSIRO), while others may join academic institutions.

To be eligible for UWA’s undergraduate degrees based on previous or current Australian Year 12 studies, applicants must have completed the relevant state Certificate of Education and achieved an Australian Tertiary Aggregate Rank (ATAR) of 75 or above. Applicants must also provide evidence of satisfying UWA’s ELC requirements.

Applicants completing the International Baccalaureate (IB) are required to successfully complete the diploma program. To be eligible for UWA’s undergraduate degrees, IB graduates will require a minimum score of 24 or higher (this may vary depending on the level of mathematics undertaken).
