Overview

English Language and Literature from Ankara University helps students comprehend the use of English language for various purposes, in different contexts and forms -daily language, official language, scientific language and literary language- and master spoken and written English.

Students at English Language and Literature from Ankara University will:

• Gain extensive chronological knowledge of English Language and Literature, from the emergence of English poetry, drama, novel and prose up to the 21st Century, as well as the historical, social, economic developments leading to the production of these works.

• Gain general and basic knowledge of literary genres (features, examples and transformation in different periods) and acquire the ability to appreciate literary works in this respect.

• Identify and evaluate the history and phases of English Literature, alongside literary, formal and stylistic features specific to each period, and identify, interpret and discuss historical, scientific, cultural, sociological and economic events linked to/influential on English Literature.

• Interpret works of English Literature in line with classical and contemporary theories of literary criticism.
