The Liberal Arts and Sciences program at the University of Freiburg enables students to learn broadly about the human and the non-human world, to systematically develop their capacity for high-level academic work in exchange with others, and to gradually unfold their own interests and abilities in ways suited to their aspirations. We encourage students to critically reflect on science and knowledge and to become skilled communicators and creative shapers of their environment.

Many graduates pursue further academic training in Master and PhD programs. Some choose to continue their studies in Freiburg or at other German universities (e.g. in Berlin, Heidelberg, Munich). Others are at universities around the world, with the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and USA being the most popular destinations. UCF graduates have been admitted to interdisciplinary as well as to specialized graduate programs at very prestigious institutions such as

  • Johns Hopkins University, Yale University (USA)
  • London School of Economics and Political Science, University of Oxford (UK)
  • Sciences Po Paris, École Normale Supérieure Paris (F)
  • University of Amsterdam, Maastricht University (NL)
  • University of St. Gallen, ETH Zürich (CH)
