Overview
The Pharmaceutical Technology (Hons) course at the University of Malta provides training in an approach to trouble-shoot product and process technologies that are used in the development and use of medicines, as well as skills in dispensing and compounding of medicines
Learning outcomes
The graduates from this programme are trained and educated to work in a variety of areas related to medicines including the pharmaceutical industry, pharmaceutical and healthcare organisations. The graduates will be able to:
- understand the standards required in handling medications
- apply chemical principles in the manufacture of medications
- apply communication skills required in the pharmaceutical industry and in health service provision institutions
- have an accurate processing of instructions and procedures
- completely follow written instructions and Standard Operating Procedures
- follow rules, regulations and standards according to local, European and international requirements.
Careers
- As a graduate, you will have access to the many career opportunities in the evolving pharmaceutical industry, in pharmaceutical regulatory sciences, research positions and pharmaceutical administration.
- You may take up further studies through the Master of Science in Pharmaceutical and Regulatory Sciences to access leading career positions in the pharmaceutical industry in research, development and launching of medicinal products such as the Qualified Person lead position.

General requirements
- Applicants must satisfy the General Entry Requirements for admission, namely, the Matriculation Certificate and Secondary Education Certificate passes at Grade 5 or better or at SEC Level 3 in Maltese, English Language and Mathematics.
- A pass at Intermediate Level or at Advanced Level in Chemistry.
- in possession of a qualification related to the proposed area of study awarded by an institution other than the University of Malta pegged at MQF/EQF Level 4 and comprising not less than 120 ECTS credits, together with a pass at Intermediate Level or at Advanced Level in Chemistry, and a pass at SEC Level at grade 5 or better in Maltese, or
- registered as a pharmacy technician with the Pharmacy Council, and have 2 years of experience as a pharmacy technician in a pharmaceutical setting, and a pass at Intermediate Level or at Advanced Level in Chemistry.
