Overview

The B.A.  Politics and Governance (Hons)  at the University of Malta is reaching out to occupational and social groups for whom politics and governance are central concerns, but who have hitherto been under-represented in the programmes on public policy, public management and public policy leadership

Learning outcomes

The students will be able to:

• Gain a deep understanding of Politics and Governance as an inter-disciplinary field of study, including its theoretical foundations, methodologies, sub-disciplines, and its connections with related social sciences.

• Understand and critically examine the development and dynamics of political systems, exploring their historical, philosophical and legal foundations, as well as the values and ideas underpinning them.

• Evaluate diverse political systems and governance structures, analysing institutions, electoral processes, and the impact of global and local contexts on political decision-making.

• Analyse the interplay between political actors, institutions, and societal structures, focusing on their roles in shaping politics and governance in historical and contemporary settings.

• Apply critical thinking and analytical skills to interpret political phenomena, including complex policy issues, political debates, and governance challenges.

Careers

• As a holder of this degree, you will be able to specialise in a variety of disciplines at postgraduate level, diversify your employment opportunities in the political arena and different public or EU institutions, and acquire additional relevant skills such as facing an audience, interviewing skills, and/or note taking.
