Overview
The Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honours) programme at University Sains Malaysia also emphasises on inter disciplines involving various field of engineering, i.e. Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Material & Mineral Resources Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Aerospace Engineering. The students are also exposed to the non-technical subjects such as management, accounting and communication skills that needed for engineers.
In general, the programme is classified into four main sub areas:
Applied Mechanics
- Engineering Mechanics, Statics, Strength of Materials, Solid Mechanics, Dynamic & Mechanism, Noise & Vibration, Applied Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Stress Analisis, Structural Impact and Composite Structures
Thermofluids
- Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamic, Fluid Dynamics, Applied Thermodynamic, Heat Transfer, Numerical Method for Engineers, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Internal Combustion Engine, Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning and Energy Conversion System.
System and Manufacturing Technology, Measurements and Control
- Manufacturing Technology, Measurement and Instrumentation, Metrology and Quality Control, Industrial Engineering, Robotics and Automation and Industrial Machine Vision
Design and Laboratory
- Engineering Drawing, Engineering Practices, Conceptual Design and Computer Aided Design, Component and Machine Design, System Design, Engineering Laboratory and Final Year Project.
This programme emphasises on practical aspects of the training relevant for the professional engineers. This is obtained through subjects in engineering laboratories, workshop practice and industrial training. The program prepares the graduates for membership in various professional organisation.
Mechanical Engineering is a profession involving design, management, production, maintenance and infrastructure development to fulfill the needs of modern living. A mechanical engineer involves with the manufacturing of product that function efficiently, reliable and economically using the limited resources effectively. Mechanical engineer also involves in industries such as power plant, heavy machinery, electronics, construction, product development, medical equipment and food processing. Hence, mechanical engineers are important in the infrastructure development and wealth creation.
