The first step is to learn close reading methods through Introduction to Literary Scholarship courses, and comprehend the historical framework through Survey of English Literature courses.

About the Program

Students can choose from a wide range of elective courses. They can also benefit from the elective courses offered by the Comparative Literature department. They are encouraged to take classes especially from linguistics, and from other disciplines of the humanities and social science, and cultivate interdisciplinary interests. This rich content prepares the students for careers in the academy, publishing, advertising, media (especially writing for TV and film) public relations and human resources. Graduates of this English Language and Literature program at Istanbul Bilgi University are especially successful in areas which require analytical thinking, advanced writing skills and creativity. Students can pursue advanced degrees in English literature, American literature, Comparative literature, linguistics, cultural studies, communication and education. They can join interdisciplinary programs in the arts, humanities and social sciences.
