Overview
Speech and language therapists work with people of all ages who experience communication and swallowing difficulties, enabling them to maximise their independence in their social, academic and working lives. Successful completion of our Speech and Language Therapy degree offered by University of Essex leads to eligibility to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a speech and language therapist.

- We currently have graduates working in clinical and management positions in local and national NHS trusts, hospitals, schools, local authorities, justice system, private and not for profit organisations, reflecting the range of locations in which speech and language therapists are employed.

General requirements
GCSE: Mathematics, Science and English C/4. Acceptable alternatives to our GCSE Maths and English requirements are listed further down this page.
Plus one of the following:
- A-levels: ABB
- BTEC: DDD, depending on subject studied - advice on acceptability can be provided.
- Access to Higher Education Diploma in a relevant pathway, e.g. Health Professions - 15 Level 3 credits at Distinction and 30 level 3 credits at Merit
- IB: 32 points or three Higher Level certificates with 655, including Standard Level Mathematics and Science grade 4 or Higher Level Mathematics grade 3.
