- Children’s Nursing is a professional career caring for children and young people. You’ve probably arrived at this page because you have a passion for helping children and young people. Right from the start, you’ll receive a blend of theoryâ¯and practical experience. Half the children's nursing degree will be spent at the University.
- The other halfâ¯of your time,â¯you’ll gain real work skills inâ¯a variety of child nursing clinical settings. You’ll learnâ¯about ‘normal’â¯child development, and how to recogniseâ¯when a child’s development is not normal.
- You’ll learn how to intervene and manage atypical development on our paediatric nursing degree. You’ll promote a healthy lifestyle in children, young people and their families and provideâ¯realâ¯patientâ¯careâ¯in hospital and community placements.
Your future career
- This course entitles you to apply for registration as a children’s nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. It opens up a wide range of career options, typically within hospitals or community-based services which can take you in many different directions.
- For example, you may choose to work in a specialist area such as a neonatal unit or children’s accident and emergency department, or you may prefer to consider community-based settings such as hospice care or community children’s nursing

General requirements
- Typical offer (UCAS points): 112–120
- Typical A Level offer: BBC–BBB
- Typical IB offer: 112–120 points from a minimum of 2 HL subjects at grade 4 or above (the remaining points to come from a combination of HL, SL and Core)
- Typical BTEC offer: DMM–DDM - BTEC National Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care or similar area of study
- Typical T Level offer: Healthcare Science; Health; Science.
- GCSE: 60 credits of which 45 credits must be at level 3. Of the 45 credits at level 3, the combination of pass/merit/distinctions must equate to a minimum of 112 UCAS points. BTEC level 2 or science based modules within the Access course can be taken as an acceptable equivalent for GCSE Science
- Access courses: Grade 4/C in English Language, Mathematics and Science.
