Key facts
Learn history that matters: History at Herts is about understanding the past in order to navigate the present. Explore five centuries of revolutions, empires, protest, rights and global change. Our modules span Early Modern Europe, The Age of Napoleon, Empire and Decolonisation, and the Cold War World.
Flexible study: At Herts, we offer a flexible programme which allows you to personalise your degree. Alongside your study of history, you can replace 25% of your degree each year with another subject: English literature, linguistics, sociology, media, film studies, creative writing, or philosophy, and graduate as a specialist in two subject areas.
Varied and practical assessment: Be prepared for the workplace with coursework only – no exams. Alongside essays you will create podcasts, curate exhibitions, produce digital storytelling and write policy papers, building a portfolio you can showcase to employers.
Placement and study abroad opportunities: Take a placement year in business, government, heritage or education, or study abroad at one of our 150 partner universities worldwide. Pay no tuition fees during this year and graduate with valuable experience and contacts.
