Overview
The Engineering - Mechanical Systems Engineering programme from Conestoga College integrates a rich blend of interdisciplinary topics covering mechanical, industrial and control engineering to enable graduates to design complex computer-controlled mechanical systems.
As a student, you will explore a rich blend of interdisciplinary topics covering mechanical, industrial, and control engineering, enabling you to design complex computer-controlled mechanical systems. Automated manufacturing systems, comprised of mechanical components, conveyors, electrical and pneumatic actuators, sensors, and robots, are examples of such mechanical systems.
Using a project-based approach, you will learn to solve real-world engineering problems and develop strong skills incorporating business methodologies, project management, and environmental protection. As you work on increasingly complex projects, you will build upon fundamental technical knowledge by gradually applying advanced leading technologies and integrating your evolving design, manufacturing, and automation skills. This project work and twelve months of paid co-op opportunities will thoroughly prepare you for a rewarding career in various engineering fields.
At the end of year two, students have the option of pursuing a major in Joining or Welding. This major option offers interdisciplinary studies of engineering design, welding and joining processes, engineering metallurgy, metal additive manufacturing, and non-destructive evaluation, complemented by robotics and automation. In state-of-the-art welding and robotic labs, and through project-based learning, you will gain practical, and theoretical knowledge in welding and joining to tackle real-world challenges. Graduates can pursue an International Welding Engineer qualification through the International Institute of Welding.
Careers
- Graduates will fill a variety of positions in the workplace. These include, but are not limited to, the engineering and managerial functions in product development, process automation, design analysis and advanced applications, advanced manufacturing processes, information technology applications, control systems and simulation, 3D graphics software development and applications, and quality assurance systems.
- On average, 93% of graduates from the last three years found employment within six months of graduation.
- Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) updated the list of eligible fields of study for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). For Conestoga's latest list of PGWP-aligned programmes, please visit the college website.
