Overview

The  Mental Health Nursing (Hons) programme from University of Malta  has been developed to meet the nursing needs of the increasing population of people with mental health problems. It aims to prepare graduates to become dynamic, reflective and highly skilled professionals able to work as fully integrated members of the psychiatric multi-disciplinary team. 

Your main focus as a mental health nursing's is to cultivate the responsibility that comes with a profession that centres around the well-being of people. We also offer opportunities for personal growth, interpersonal skills development and the foundations of evidence-based interventions to enable you to do so as self-directed practitioners.

Career opportunities

• On successful completion of the programme, you would be eligible for employment as a first level registered psychiatric nurse in Malta and in several other EU member states. 

• Nurses are nowadays expected to continue to develop on a personal and professional level, through lifelong learning. Post-registration educational opportunities for professional development are also available, such as specialising programmes, Masters graduate programmes, and EU exchange activities.

• As a graduate psychiatric nurse, you will be employable in a variety of health care settings, such as the community and specialist care setting, and engage in a variety of roles, such as management and policy development, research and the psychiatric nursing development unit. Employment opportunities for this professional group are very good.
