Overview

The live events industry has seen a surge of technology advances in the last 10 years, blurring the lines between live music performances, corporate events, and other mixed-media live experiences. 

This exciting, hands-on degree supports you to develop the skills for a career in the technical side of events, where there is a growing skills gap of skilled engineers and technicians pushing the boundaries of technology.

Throughout your studies you will have the chance to build specialist skills with practical learning opportunities in the state-of-the-art facilities, from the Dolby Atmos Cinema to the HD outside broadcast vehicle. 

The Live Event Technology (Hons) degree at Solent University will help you develop a high level of working knowledge, leaving you fully equipped to install, operate and customise audio, video and lighting systems and pursue a range of careers in the music, broadcasting, and live events industry. This gives you first-hand experience of the time and quality pressures associated with outside broadcasting and live events.

Career

The past decade has seen a surge in the number of festivals and live events taking place within the UK. A 2023 events trends report by Eventbrite showed 52% of those surveyed in the UK intended to attend more events. With this growth, increasingly complex sound and lighting technologies are being used to enhance the audience experience. 

This course aims to give graduates the tools to work and excel in this exciting and growing industry, using employer links to give students hands-on experience of up-to-date technology.

The course team maintain very close links with alumni and as a result are well placed to arrange work experience and placement opportunities for students from level four to level six, as well as internship schemes upon graduation.
