Overview
Students who attend the three-year course in Visual Design at Raffles Milano are future designers of digital and analogical communication, creative directors and brand experts.
The main goal of the course is to build a community united by a desire to explore and interrogate the broad field of graphic design and visual communication, transcending the traditional boundaries of the discipline and renewing its rules.
Professional Opportunities
Graduates will be able to apply to traditional design roles such as visual designers, graphic designers, art/creative director, brand designer, digital designer, packaging designer. They will also be skilled designers of the digital age, thanks to their peculiar education, all interdisciplinary. They will be able to express themselves as UX/UI designer, motion graphic designer, designer for augmented reality and virtual reality.
Accreditation
Upon successful completion, students receive a First Level Academic Diploma under Ministerial Decree No. 1216 of 31 August 2023, officially recognized by MUR within the AFAM system. They may also obtain a Raffles e-Certificate in Visual Design from Raffles University, subject to internal procedures and an additional fee.
Programme Structure
All Visual Design bachelor students begin with a shared foundation in visual language, typography, brand design, editorial design and digital communication, developing essential skills for contemporary design.
The first year focuses on visual language, typography, drawing, design history and core tools, alongside print culture, bookbinding and printing techniques.
In the second year, students explore motion graphics, digital animation, UX/UI, infographics, information design, art direction and type design, supported by studies in cinema, contemporary art and communication.
The third year focuses on advanced brand and interaction design, semiotics and AI-generated imagery, with cinematography and editing labs. The programme concludes with a graduation thesis and benefits from Milan’s strong design and communication industry.
Audience
The course is for candidates who possess a high school diploma and students coming from Italian or foreign universities, with a keen interest in visual communication, from design (graphic, visual, digital design, lettering, photography, video) to anthropology and society (art history and history of design, sociology, semiotics, aesthetics, theories of communication)

Elisa Richelmi
Graphic and interior designer. In 2008 she founded XxY Studio. Over fifteen years her work has spanned visual identities for companies, organisations, product lines, and editorial projects, with a consistent focus on how visual languages develop and change over time.
