Overview
Key Facts
The programme in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at Central European University (CEU) is multi-disciplinary — students receive thorough training in at least two of the three PPE disciplines.
They can also undertake interdisciplinary work in their BA thesis and capstone project, and take courses from outside the framework that can offer contrasting or more interdisciplinary perspectives on the topics they are interested in.
Students begin by studying the basics of all three subjects in the first year, and then, in their second year, they choose two academic disciplines to focus on. In their third year, they continue with the study of their two main disciplines, may choose to study abroad for a term or the entire year, and are required to write a thesis. In their fourth year, students continue to develop their skills and knowledge by taking advanced courses in their chosen discipline and developing an independent capstone project. In their second and third years, they can also complement their main study areas by taking courses from the other two BA programmes: Culture, Politics and Society, and Quantitative Social Sciences.
