Students learn through lectures, laboratory, seminar and field training and whilst the aim of this degree scheme is to focus on human geography, students may choose some of their courses in more physical geography disciplines if they wish, to enable focus to move to the role of people in their environment. Suitable courses exist in both second and third year on environmental management themes
This course provides an opportunity to explore the fascinating and diverse field of contemporary human geography at an advanced level, most notably in the areas of urban, cultural, economic and geopolitics. The Human Geography programme is offered at the Royal Holloway University of London.

In your first year you will study physical geography, human geography, geographies of development and geographical techniques, as well as research and field methods.
The first year develops your pre-university knowledge and looks at both human and physical processes. The second and third years allow you to choose from a wide range of options, giving students the chance to focus on sub-disciplines or themes within geography.
This can be entirely human geography, or you could choose to take subjects which link human to physical geography topics, such as landscape modification, environmental management or human:environment interactions. In these years you may also develop your studies more widely through taking courses in other Departments.

Future Leaders Scholarships:
These scholarships are available as tuition fee waivers equivalent to the full annual Home/ EU tuition fee over the first three years of study at Royal Holloway, unless a student spends a year abroad or on an industrial placement. In such cases, the tuition fee waiver will be applied in year 4 instead of year 3.
These scholarships are offered as tuition fee waivers of £10,000 in total, given in instalments over three years of study at Royal Holloway: £4,000 in year 1, £3,000 in year 2 and £3,000 in year 3, unless a student spends a year abroad or on an industrial placement. In such cases, the payment will be made in year 4 instead of year 3.
