Overview
At Shipping (Hons) of Business College of Athens is a leading force in the industry worldwide, while at the same time it is the most important sector of the Greek economy, contributing significantly to the country's GDP.
The courses cover a very wide range of the industry which includes processes and functions related to the departments of operations, procurement, human resources, crew management, economics, accounting, finance, chartering, marine insurance and many more. In addition, there are courses that focus exclusively on the legislative and regulatory framework in Shipping and all the regulations. Particular emphasis is given to international organizations active in Shipping as well as the international conventions of the IMO .
Key facts
During the courses, students become familiar with the functions of both ship-owning shipping companies and management companies, and finally, special emphasis is placed on the part of maritime companies.
At the same time, the curriculum includes courses that concern the context of new technologies, artificial intelligence in Shipping, as well as environmental issues, in the important effort of the green transition that is being implemented towards a Shipping with zero carbon dioxide emissions.
In conjunction with the courses, a large number of educational activities are implemented each academic year, which includes visits to shipping companies, maritime companies and institutional bodies. Also, great importance is given to student visits to ships, where they have the opportunity to see several types and understand the specificities of each type, both in terms of navigation and loading and unloading.
Graduates of the BSc Shipping program can pursue careers in ship-owning companies, ship management companies, and across the entire maritime industry. The absorption rate is over 90% and in many cases students start working in the industry alongside their studies.
