The Shipping (Hons) programme of the Business College of Athens is designed for those who seek a career in the various sectors of the shipping business industry, such as ship owning companies, ship management companies, ship brokering companies, other companies offering services in the shipping industry and other maritime related organisations. Students acquire solid knowledge and skills, in order to have a successful career in the shipping sector they will engage.

- Extensive experience as the oldest Shipping department in Greece, with a history exceeding 45 years.
- Τhe Shipping department has lecturers with years of experience in the industry which enables them to blend theory with practice effectively.
- Focus on the national and international shipping industry, developing the understanding of the shipping business and techniques, concepts and principles that make shipping unique and efficient driven.
- Emphasis on improving students’ employability opportunities by developing both business-specific (e.g. negotiating techniques, chartering practice, ship sale and purchase practice, formulating a business plan, conduct financial statement analysis) and generic (e.g. presentation, effective team-working, leadership) skills and competencies, while the career office collects students’ cv and distributes them to the shipping industry. Its strong connections with the shipping industry increase the employability opportunities for BCA students.
- BCA’s Shipping department cooperates with the Norwegian-German Classification Society (DNVGL) where students during their academic course have the opportunity to attend specialized seminars by DNVGL and receive its certificates accordingly.
- The course incorporates links with the industry and thus provides students with the opportunity to comprehend how theory applies in practice, with the utilisation of well-known and respected members of the industry as guest speakers.
- Students have the opportunity to select from a list of optional modules, including foreign languages, such as Chinese, Russian and Spanish. Foreign languages play an important role in a globalized environment like shipping, as it is easier to communicate and seal deals and contracts.
- Emphasis on employability skills and opportunities for a national and international career in shipping.
- The Shipping Programmes of Business College of Athens, in collaboration with Plymouth University, offer to their bachelors and master graduates examination exemptions, regarding specific modules of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS).
